Need Homemade Christmas Ideas for Guy?

I’m 20 and I’ve been with my guy for 3 years now. This year, he decided to join the military, if all the paper work is done timely he will leave before February 2011.

I’ve made home gifts for him before, but I want something super special! Since he will be stationed.

He’s really smart, and manly. I gave him one year a homemade puzzle I drew.
He doesn’t like sweets, I live near the south so it never gets cold to make scarfs or gloves, and I’m trying not to draw something for him.

Any Ideas?

A scrapbook! It really is sentimental, and he can even bring it with him to the military maybe! Just find pictures of you guys throughout the past 3 years, ticket stubs, type special quotes… Go to the craft store and get some pretty backgrounds or stickers and it will be adorable!

Try a personlized calandar! From shutterfly, zazzle, snapfish… Really anywhere online. This can be very cute, especially since hes going to the military. Each month can be a different picture of the two of you, (include maybe one or two of his family in it too) with the actual month calandar. This way, he can keep track of the date while hes away while looking at your photo each day

Good luck!

My mum heard two No 7 consultants talking today at our local store. One was asking the other if she was looking at all the things she wanted ready for tomorrow. When they noticed my mum they started to whisper. So, always check online, but it could possibly be that there is a 75% sale tomorrow 19th Jan. I know they need their shelves clearing asap and the 50% merchandice is not moving.

i need some christmas gift ideas for my step mother?

i really dont know her too well. my dad and her have been married now for about 12 years, and i only see them once a year. she’s a nice lady and all, but i have no idea what to get her. and i know she feels the same way about me. last year she gave me a shirt that was about 3 sizes too big and a box of potpori which i’m highly allergic to (my dad is dense, he wouldnt notice something like that). of course i never told them it was WAY too big, or it would make me miserable. last year i got her some bud vases. i think she likes owls, but i got her owl stuff for a few years in a row when i was younger, and i’ve never seen anything with an owl in the house (it was my dad that told me that). i’ve tried contacting my dad about what to get her, but i havent heard back. i wont see them probably until january (one year it wasnt until april) so its not like a mad dash to get it before christmas. soon would be nice. i just honestly have no idea…

a lot of good ideas so far but maybe i should give some more detail on my mom…lol

What are some things that may help ease my mind of thinking so much of my spouse?

In the beginning, it was quite fair with my attitude towards to this anew relationship that had been recently found. I was quite neutral and content, not too excited or too grave of a feeling with this new man I am seeing. I thought less of him, and had no true passion for him, but I was wrong after we had a three day vacation in Montreal. My passion for him soar to the skies as I wanted to see him, hear from him, and even… possess him or is that the wrong word? I want to, but I have not done so. Recently, I had him to come over to support me in renovating my bedroom. He told me that the wall shelf are not capable being drilled as my walls sustain a vent in the way. He immediately suggested we should go to IKEA. At the spur of the moment, I had no idea what I would want to get in the store so he suggested a bookshelf.

As much as I assent to his suggestion, I was never the kind to impulsively purchase something so expensive at the spot. You see, I am quite indecisive about many things, as much as it is irksome to me, it is quite out of my hands.

We got the bookshelf, and he complained to me how the things he wanted to get me were already bought before he could step into the store by me. Such as a video game that I want and the next day I would buy it, he would had no opportunity to get it for me. He told me that I was an impulsive person. I left him little option in what he could give me for a Christmas present. To be honest, I did not want him to get me anything at all, it was too much trouble just to give me a silly gift. He bought the bookshelf, with the usage of my store credit, in my stead. I was extremely hesitant and nervous. He thought I did not want the bookshelf and was on the brink of returning the item back. That was not the problem. The problem resided within the meaning behind the gift, I felt he was too uncreative and bought the item as though it was compulsory. Anyway, we hardly talked in the car ride, and even more so when he came over to help out. He was more concern in finishing the job, and he was even more attentive to assembling the bookshelf. He even brushed me aside, telling me to “play some video games” while he worked. I suppose men do tend to be single-minded! He said he hardly had any sleep because of a girl he had been hosting for the sake of his friend, who hosted him in Taiwan for 2 weeks, and is doing his friend a favor by taking out the girl around. I was curious about why he came back home around 2 AM. I simply asked what did he do with her. He answered that they had dinner and talked for a long time. Truthfully, I was a bit jealous, we hardly have such conversations anymore. Sometimes I feel we’re drifting apart. It’s just one of those days, but perhaps I am more ill-confident than others about our spouses.

Sometimes, I feel he is rather cold, and very apathetic; it’s quite nerve-wrecking, mind you…

I thought of him all day, he told me that he would be busy from the 21st to the 24th. I got the hint that he wanted to spend Christmas Day with me. Despite that, I wanted to hear from him on the 21st, but it never happened. I only received a morning email from him of a link which linked to a “Failed-blogged” website, and tis all it was. Other than that, I hear nothing.

The question is: should I have not been so dormant and initiate before him? Maybe not hearing from me all day given him an implied suggestion that I did not want to talk, hence I did not message him or called him. I hardly do the calling anyway. The problem with me is that I believe in space and giving others their “air” to breath, it is another way for freedom and relief in my opinion.

I had been so lonely today made me thought of my dear so much more. In addition, I acceded to talking to a much older man for a while on the phone (not that it is any different from other days) and we talked more than I could really remember from my times with my spouse. I felt that I could open with this stranger more than I could with my dear one. I felt comfortable yet lonely talking to him. He surely helped to ease my loneliness for a bit, otherwise the feeling is like a river in the dam waiting to force its way through the humanoid technology.

So in the end, what are some ways to relief my mind of my spouse? Any relating thoughts? You may share your stories of how you felt when you wanted to see your spouse. your lover, your beloved. I need a Chicken Soup for Mature Relationships in here.

If this helps, I am 19, female, and aspiring law student working in a law firm at current, while he is 26, male, and works as a security trader.

Any comments would be most pleasing.

Thank you.

p.s. I should try to invite an outing among a few of my friends, if they’re not busy that is, which is much likely due to this time of the season, but I will try.

Would it make you feel a bit awkward if your spouse/SO did this?

I am unexpectedly getting a bit of cash from an inheritance and of course I’m going to use it first to pay off my debts (of which I have very few, under 400 dollars). It’s coming right at the start of December and for a Christmas present I’d like to make it so that the car my BF is driving will be legal (inspection, registration, restart the insurance). He CAN handle the payments of the insurance afterwords himself, but cannot come up with the amount he would need to get everything in order. I don’t drive and we often use the car to run my errands and also for all of the kids, it would be nice to not have to worry every time we go anywhere and the amount it would take to do so won’t be a hardship at all….I’d even have some left for a mini vacation and the supplies I need for my crafts in the next year.

What I’m getting at is would you feel awkward that you wouldn’t be able to “match” that?

I’m asking because we’re both usually living on a very tight budget and we’re touchy about talking money….so better to gift him this or offer it as a loan of sorts?
Thank you Happy…If we were living together I’d be less uncertain about it. There’d be no question. As you know if you’ve seen my questions lately though, we’d need a big house (all the kids) and we are going to have to save quite a while for that. LOL both of us never thought we’d be anything but single again so the places we are renting are rather small.
Ryde…I am investing it into the craft stuff (and also some painting gear…we’ll be doing some “side jobs” this winter), it will turn a profit for me which I can then save. It’s a nice bit of cash, but not too much.
Also, by mini vacation, I mean a couple of nights in a cheap motel with no kids around and a few nice bottles of wine….nothing extravagant

What would be a great Christmas present to send to someone who lives in another place?

I was wondering what I should give my friend for Christmas present. She gave me a present last Christmas & I sort of forgot to give her one. I felt bad and now I really want to give her one. I moved so now, she lives in different place.

She doesn’t want me sending gift to her directly so, I can’t really send her through air mail to her address.
Without knowing what your friend likes or is into makes it a little difficult. BUT, may I suggest that you have a look online at some shops that you know are near your friend.

For example, check out a candle shop and browse through their catalogue. Sometimes they will offer delivery but if not you can pay over the phone for the item that you have selected and then ring/email/send a letter to your friend telling her that a surprise is waiting for her at the shop.

I did this with my cousin for her birthdya this year and it went down a treat.

Think about homewares, local gourmet delis (think hamper), chocolate, candles, perfume/accesories, book shop.

XmasShopper answers:

Boys are not so happy to get poems unless you are highly gifted and it is funny only. Girls..on the other hand..would be deeply touched.

I like the idea of homemade cookies. If you guys have fun together and make jokes or have a secret code or something..you could make gingerbread men or sugar cookies and decorate them with funny and really silly stuff.

If he’s not your boyfriend…pls. Don’t get him a ‘sentimental’ gift. You will scare him away. Seriously.

If you have a picture of you both together….go to picnik.com and write in things like..”.friends’, ‘cool’ loll,…whatever your lingo is…and then print it, and put it in an inexpensive black frame (wal-mart). Or just put the picture in it…and make the card very casual and silly. OK?

BTW…have you even discussed presents? Not to blow out your candle…but since you say he’s not your b/f..and you just like him…and you are wanting to give him a present…make sure you think he’s going to get you something too! IF you think you want him as a b/f but you are just maintaining your friendship..hoping he will like you more if you get him a present…you are sadly mistaken. The guy should always be the first to give a present…a girl that gives too much too soon…scares guys away. They feel boxed in and like the girl is too needy.

Just a few tips you totally didn’t ask for! Sorry! Sometimes I don’t know when to shut up with my advice. But it’s true..ask any guy!!

In fact…ask any guy friend..what would he think if….and take it from there. Sometimes…just a friendly homemade card is more than enough..especially if you are just friends and you sound young.

Happy holidays and good luck with your friend.

A friend of mine made her boyfriend a warm blanket. She got 2 different colors of fleece material, and cut all the ends all around in strips about 3 inches long and tied the corresponding strips together so that each side was a different color. Then she got pieces of felt and cut them out in shapes and letters and sewed them on. She did both of their names and some hearts and stars, etc. It ended up looking really cute and he loved it.
If you have woods near you, you can go out and gather some unique pieces of wood. Then gather acorns, moss, ferns, anything you can find. Take it all home and glue things on the wood for an arrangement for a table or shelf.

If you have any old albums you don’t want, you can make bowls out of them. Each one will be unique. You can fill them with some cheap ornaments or candy from the dollar store. If you don’t have any records, a thrift store will have them really cheap.

Christmas Homemade Gift Ideas?

I was thinking about baking a bunch of Christmas cookies and giving them away to mine and my boyfriends family on Christmas eve, I am scared I wont have much money for presents for everyone since we are tight on money but i still want to give something to them. What else is a good idea to give that is homemade and not too expensive?

I have the same issue this year and I believe homemade gifts are an awesome solution.

You can do homemade rice filled heating pads. Get Christmas decorated hand towels for cheap at the dollar store, fold them in half long-ways and sew all three sides, then use the unsewn side to fill with rice and then close. They can put them in the microwave to use for a heading pad on any part of the body, especially the neck.

Homemade soap bars can be made fairly cheap, go to any Hobby Lobby or similar store and purchase glycerin and molds plus some scents.

I plan to go to a portrait studio that offers cheap packages on Christmas portraits (the one I found locally is 40 pictures for only 9.95 and 7 for extra sheets) and then putting them in frames as gifts.

There are other things you can do as well, like homemade beaded jewelry or candles.

Good luck and early Merry Christmas!

Christmas and stepkids, more conflict!?

Just to bring you up to speed there’s a dilemma at my house concerning Christmas gifts for my son. my current husband and i disagree when it comes to getting gifts for our youngest two his daughter is 11 and my son is 12 he seems to think we have to buy evenly for them, my son does not have a father or family from his dad’s side that buys for him i feel i should be able to purchase whatever i want to for him his daughter on the otherhand has a mother who is buying her gifts and just a while ago his older daughter from out of town came to drop the younger one off and proceeded to tell about the gifts she just got, did she buy my son anything NO! I hate Christmas!
I am not upset that the other daughter didn’t buy my son anything, i am just making a point that my stepdaughter has other people to buy for her and my son only has ME
opinions please?
Thanks for all of your opinions, i am glad i am not being selfish i didn’t think i was. i am getting him more gifts and will put them under the tree Christmas eve so by then it is to late for my hubby to say anything , if he gets mad oh well won’t be the first time LOL!

When will my daughter figure this out on her own?

This could be long but I will make it as short as possible.

I have been divorced from my daughters father for several years now, for the first year and a half or so he would visit her every other weekend and one over night through the week, then all of a sudden he just stops having his visits for whatever reason he has, I know it has nothing to do with money, he makes enough, he lives rent free, all he has to worry about is buying food and gas to get to work and pay child support which is now taken out of his check because he decided to stop paying through the court house. He did see her once last year a few days before Christmas and she spent the night at his home and before he left he promised my daughter he would mail her some gifts, so far no gifts and according to his father he hasn’t even bought any. He never calls or has anything at all to do with her unless I am in the area he lives in visiting my family. When will she figure out on her own that he just doesn’t care unless it is convenient for him? She loves her dad and I try so hard not to say bad things about him in front of her. She is 6 by the way.
Roll_Tide, for the record I am not a difficult person to deal with, but that isn’t the point. Wether he likes to deal with me or not that is no reason to stop seeing his daughter now is it?

As someone who had a father just like that(even worse) she will figure it out. Kids are not dumb, they are much more aware then people think. She wants to believe that daddy is the greatest, but that’s not the case and that sucks. It sort of hit me one day that my father was an SOB and would never be what a good father should be. The best you can do is be there for her and be the stable loving, consistent parent that she needs. You are right about not bad mouthing him, believe me when I say that’s the WRONG thing to do. It will only make your child resent you as well. That’s what my mother did and I wanted to scream at her to shut up. Also it does not matter what your ex thinks of you, that’s no excuse to ignore his daughter. You could be an ax murderer and it wouldn’t matter

I think it is right that you continue to give her money to get her father gifts for all the holidays that call for them. Make sure you give them the money and let them pick it out so you are instilling the right idea about gift giving. You might even encourage them to make him something on their own. That way they will realize that it is not the money that makes the gift, but the idea of the gift itself. Then if they make you something on their own it will make them feel good. Forget about what you ex does or not do for them.

young ladies, a father needs your advice?

my daughter‘s birthday is this week…of ALL the possible dates on the calender, hers is Sept 11, and 2001 was her 16th birthday..(im not trolling)

i have had the good fortune since this past Christmas to have her back in my life. i am very grateful. even if she chooses tomorrow to never see me again, i will still be grateful…her mother and i didn’t work out and her mom split on me when she was about 3 months pregnant…so anyway…

at christmas my daughter specified she wanted no gift, so i gave her a card w/ enough cash for her and her significant other (“the one
as she’s told me) to have a decent evening out…(she was pleasantly surprised i think)

i had gotten advice from a young lady in this forum who had to deal w/ getting reacquainted w/ her father also.

she took me to a baseball game fathers day weekend, and i was overjoyed. so much so that i made it a point to buy her a sweat shirt, mostly b/c this was the 1st fathers day i had gotten to spend w/ her, and again, i was very grateful.

i love my daughter, i would guess all of us love our kids…

in short, the rule in our home is whatever you want for dinner, she asked me to make mexican…fine, im good at that,

and the plan was (as i intended) a card w/ some cash, should i look to include a small gift?

all i really want is to have the evening w/ her as a family, she’s wanted and loved, and i just want her to know that…

i’m sure if i gave her a card alone, she’s say TY… i am seeing, she’s a very decent human being, i doubt she’d want anything, she has all she needs, she works, very hard, and is a college student…

im willing to take any advice…ty all…in advance.
ok, there are no bad answers here. i’m getting the idea that i should just relax and just enjoy having my daughter around. i’m gonna try that apporoach.

pick a best amongst yourselves, i see al of these as very thoughtful answers. TY…

I’m not really sure on how to answer since I really have almost no idea on what you’re asking but I think that, to your daughter, you’re the one who’s (sort of) spoiling her. If she took you out for a baseball game that probably shows that she either wants something more from you or she really wants to spend some more quality time with you. And as for the small gift, I don’t think you really have to but if you really want to surprise her with that [insert type of accessories/clothing/anything else here] she’s been eying then go ahead. I’m sure she’d be pleasantly surprised by that if that’s what you’re aiming for.

Gift Cards at Hollister?

my daughter just got a gift card for christmas from her uncle on her father‘s side, the problem is, it is to the Hollister store, now number one, i don’t like her wearing that type of clothing, i like her to be original, and free sprited, second she doesn’t necessarily fit into their clothing she’s 5’10 and 160lbs, she’s by no means fat, but their clothing just doesn’t fit her. Now i tried to go to the store, and exchange the gift card for cash, so she can shop elsewhere but they won’t let me, what can i do? It’s 150$ and i don’t want it to go to waste.
it’s not so much that i force her not to wear the clothes, i encourage her to be diffrent. She always gets so down when she tries to shop there because everythings always so small, or so tight. She’s not fat but she’s got a bigger frame. She’s got an extremly athletic build. There jeans make her butt crack hang out, and their tops are always to short. So before, you tell me i’m wrong for encouraging my daughter not to feel bad about herself because she doesn’t fit societies mold of what a women’s body should like look, you should look at yourself….

XmasShopper answers:

Yikes. Well. She could get a purse or belts or jewelry that dont really say Hollister anywhere on them. If she can fit into some tank tops, she could always get some solid colored tank tops that she can layer under her other clothes. I’m bigger, about same weight as her, and the tanks fit me, so they’ll fit her. She could get a good pair of jeans. They’ll have the Hollister design on the pocket, but they’re good jeans.

And if she wants to shop there, just let her do it. She’s able to make her own choices, right?

How much to spend on Christmas gift for BF of 5 months?

By the time Christmas is here, my boyfriend and I (we’re both 21) will have been dating for 5 months. We love each other and have a really strong relationship. This is really the first time I’m buying a Christmas gift for a boyfriend, so I’m not sure how much I should spend. Is there a price range that would be good? Should I talk to him about setting a limit?

Also, any ideas for gifts? Unfortunately, he’s not into video games, and I was thinking of a digital camera, but he said he wouldn’t use it.
This is funny because my son has this stuffed cat that he is SURE is alive and living! I wouldn’t buy the pretend friends. The friends are very real to your kids but I don’t see why you should buy gifts for them. What I did was buy one of those little stockings for my son’s stuffed animal. It’s very small and we used it to fill with candy. Of course my son ate it but it was a nice thing to do for my son. He had fun with it. That only lasted one or two years.

Christmas gift ideas for mom and dad?

I have no idea what to get my mom and dad. They are so hard to buy for! Give me anything that you can think of. Thanks!

XmasShopper answers:

Homemade is always great for parents, keep that in mind. When I was littler, I used to make “coupons” good for one hug, or an hour of peace and quiet, etc. But that may be too “babyish,” it often is. You can also make jewelry or cards or other fun stuff like that!
I give my mom jewelry and accessories a lot, that kind of stuff is good for moms.
Books are good for either parent, like the most recent of a series they’ve been reading, etc.
Parents aren’t picky at all about Christmas gifts. In fact, one year I didn’t give mine gifts at all. I simply gave them each a hug and a kiss and said, “I love you, Mom,” and “I love you, Dad.” The best gift you can give someone is your PRESENCE, not PRESENTS. But there’s nothing wrong with getting someone a gift as something a little bit extra, either. I personally love Christmas shopping.
Keep in mind that no matter what kind of gift you get your parents, they will appreciate it anyway. Don’t stress over it too much.

Hope I helped!!

How about a weekend away, perhaps with you? You could find a local camp area and buy him a weekend at it. Then perhaps if he is needing anything new for camping you could buy that and put the camp weekend certificate in it.

Or if you have the extra $, I do not know what part of the world you are in, but maybe a week in Yosemite- its just beautiful there and a nature lovers dream.

Maybe a fly fishing trip, or a white water rafting trip?

There are all sorts of outdoor events happening, perhaps you can google your area and see if you can find something coming up in January that he would enjoy going to that you could get him tickets for.

Need Christmas gift ideas for dad?

My dad is in his early 50′s. He loves the outdoors…floating, fishing, camping. He loves to be outside. He is more of a homebody. He and my step-mom don’t go out much they just enjoy being home together. He’s not big into technology or trends. He’s got pretty much everything and I run into this problem every Christmas of what to get him. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Look for something he enjoys that isn’t a huge hobby. If it’s a hobby he’ll often buy whatever he likes, and it’s often too specialized to be easily understood (“NO! Not the A-type slot bucket! The AA type!”)

Look for little things…if he’s a regular coffee drinker, you could pick him up some Blue Mountain coffee (make sure he has a coffee grinder first!). If he likes to read the comic page in the newspaper, buy him a collection of his favorite comic strips. If he’s into trivia, buy him a copy of ‘Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader’ (badly named but fantastic books, sell for about $20).

The key is to show some thoughtfulness while still getting him a present he won’t have bought for himself. Are his slippers looking worn and tattered? Does he like the Beatles (their ‘new’ album, Love, is a good choice)? Does he sneak some of your mother’s candy when she’s not looking? Buy him some of his own.

I’ll give you some ideas but really, without knowing them I don’t know how it would go over. You might also try gifts.com, you can shop by personality and set the price limit at nothing over $25. Now, one question, are you saying TOTAL the budget is $20, or PER PERSON the budget is $20? If it’s the first, you’d really better cut some people from the list or save some more money.

Mom: How about a peace sign necklace? You could even make it yourself out of clay to make it more personal.

Dad: I saw this once a long time and loved the idea. You take an Altoid’s tin and paint it green. If you can find a scrap peice of fake grass or felt you might put that on the top. You decorate it to look like a golf course. Then you fill it with golf tees, cleats, maybe a golf keychain?

Grandparents: Don’t buy, make. Paint or draw a picture and frame it, or you can buy those clay molds and make them magnets. You could also make marble magnets/thumbtacks. You just need thumbtacks or magnet backing, clear flat back jewels, modgepodge, and some tiny pictures (you can resize ones of you and their other grandchildren, or some of their favorite things). You cut the picture to fit the back of the jewel, modge-podge it on so if the jewel were lying on the table you would be seeing the picture through it. Let it dry, then coat the picture with modgepodge (to protect it) and once THAT’S dry you can glue on the tack/magnet.

Dad’s Girlfriend: My mom does the same thing! Anything snowman related will be fine.

Courtney: Gift card and stuffed monkey sounds good.

Alexa: It depends. College students are notorious for not having any money, and that’s how it was for me too, so depending on what kind of girl she is and her financial situation I would suggest either a little basket of school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, paper clips, index cards, etc) or a little basket of stuff she has no “need” for, her favorite nail polish, a couple candy bars, a gift card to the movies, a cd, things like that. Or you could do a “beach in a basket”, get a sand pail or a tote bag and fill it with beach things. Sunblock, sunglasses, a beach towle, a trashy book, a beach keychain?

Krystal: a giftcard and stuffed animal would be fine. Or maybe a book on horses?

Ashley: How about a High School Musical necklace? You could even get some HSM notebooks, pencils, and books to go with it (you can get them at the dollar store).

Aunt and Uncle: The ones you never see at the hardest to shop for. I’d say your best bet is probably food.

Dena: A soccer keychain with some soccer-related stuff? (water bottle, sweat bands)

Other Aunt: How about a book about the life of Elvis or Michael Jackson? Or just one of those amazing photo collection books they sell, on either man?

Best Friend: Sounds fine, if it’s a nicer one. If it’s the plastic kind of you get at arcades then yes that would be cheap. Clarie’s sells nicer ones for about $10 I believe.

Good luck!

Things in Dubai are hella expensive.
You could get them some earrings or bracelets, make-up, gift cards, a poster or picture or something, an interesting book that they might like…..idk they sound kinda lame but they are actually pretty good ideas. Personal things are the best though, like a scrap book, pictures, something signed etc.

Definitely shop the sale/clearance! You could get Starbucks gift cards for a couple dollars, and then make a card and write something like, “For your favorite drink!”

I’m not sure why you need to buy things for 24 people.. Its not usually good to get something for someone that got nothing for you, because then they’d feel bad!

Other ideas:
guitar pick for a instrument player
hair accessories
make-up
cute pens
candy or chocolate
cookies
